I wish teachers could talk crazy Republicans into supporting teachers in schools with more money - but Republicans are crazier than an armed kid in school.

Oh? From two sources.

4. Virginia $59,585
5. Illinois $58,756
6. Texas $58,325
7. Pennsylvania $56,629

Top 5 Highest Salaries by State
State Avg. Public School Salary
New York $71,633
Massachusetts $69,273

And now California democrats have a super majority. The republicans have no power to run the budget hardly at all. Let’s see how that goes.

It’s not just a salary issue. It also means investing in making good infrastructure, providing quality services to students, transportation, classroom materials, books, etc.

Salary does have an impact, and that’s in attracting talented teachers. If you don’t offer a good salary, who do you guess will be wanting those teaching positions? Not the top rated graduates, that’s for sure. The middle tier might be think on it, but will not be swayed easily into accepting.

You mean the teacher DIDN’T have a gun?

I’m shocked, shocked I say!

Okay, 68 Billion is the money spent on K-12 in California. About six million students. Divide that. That’s more than $11,000 per student per year.

Highest per-pupil spending

Washington, D.C. - $18,667
New York - $18,618
New Jersey - $16,841
Alaska - $15,783
Vermont - $15,274
Wyoming - $15,169
Connecticut - $14,906
Massachusetts - $14,350
Maryland - $13,738
Rhode Island - $13,699

Lowest per-pupil spending
Utah - $6,064
Idaho - $7,106
Arizona - $7,848
Oklahoma - $7,896
Tennessee - $8,065
Mississippi - $8,119
North Carolina - $8,409
Nevada - $8,483
Florida –$8,741
Texas - $8,746

So let’s look at results.
STAR test scores up despite statewide school budget cuts
RESEDA, LOS ANGELES (KABC)
— The scores are in for Southern California students who took the annual STAR exam. Despite cutbacks and layoffs, scores are up for the ninth straight year. They’re at their highest levels since the testing began.

I think Destro was going on faith, faith that moar democrats and moar money means better results. Well we (California) have better results, the dems are already in charge with a super-majority.

But all this is all off my topic. The topic for the Page is my respect and bone marrow deep thanks to the teacher who stood up and prevented deaths at severe risk to himself. I have read that staff at Sandy Hook lunged at the gunman, unarmed, untrained but determined to stop him

Teachers, thank you all.

We agree. :-)

Something is not right here. I was told, only a good guy with a gun, could stop a bad guy with a gun?

Salary? How selfish of you. I was talking about giving teachers a better budget per student but that shows how you measure support I guess.

It’s how I read your comment. How linking the facts about salary and overall spending i selfish of me I have no idea. You were trolling the Page anyway, cheap shot at a party that has not had a majority for more than a decade here.

You seem to view moar money much like the NRA views moar guns. It’s the auto answer to the problem, a problem that may not have the circumstance and scale you think it does. Akin to the NRA.

The public education system came about in part because manufacturing barons wanted an educated enough work force to be able to read some and do some math. I don’t see it as a surprise that with the decline of manufacturing in America there has been a decline in education because the power base in this country no longer cares if America has an educated work force - globalization has rendered the need for home grown talent moot - lip service by politicians to the matter aside. Outside of upscale communities, schools in America are a babysitting service for the drone worker population (those that still have work) to house their kids in so the business community does not have to pay for day care themselves on their premises.

Troll that.
